The reality is so many people have already been wearing masks even before this started. This current virus has given people more of an excuse to keep the mask on and hide with the really going through and to hide what’s really happening behind that mask. One of the things about the masks is that you can hide your emotions. --- Masks in a pandemic protect other people from us. Masks in our lives protect us from other people. /// WE WEAR MASKS IN OUR LIVES BECAUSE WE FEEL PROTECTED FROM OTHERS KNOWING WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON… /// SOME OF US have been wearing MASKS for SO LONG that we are SO USED TO THE MASK… WE THINK its comfortable to wear a mask---but it’s not—we’re not actually free, not actually THE MASK is holding us back from living our best lives… The same things that could protect us also harm us--- keeping us in isolation, away from community, away from honesty, etc…Genesis 27:1, 4-12, 13-24, 30-21, 34, 41 -----Rebekah puts on a disguise on Jacob— parents be careful what you put on your kids— we’ve got to be careful what we make our kids wear, do, play, try that’s our WAY OF LIVNG OUR DREAMS instead of encouraging them to be who they are, and cheering them on... ----JACOB deceived his dad ISAAC to believe he’s the son ESAU... --WHAT are you HIDING FROM??? What are you HIDING? Filters and photo manipulation How a mask develops? 1) labels & words spoken over us 2) the people we envy 3) the pain we experience - we allow the pain to steal the real us 4) the lies we believe from the enemy Why people wear masks: 1. Acceptance – Many people want to be accepted for many different reasons and to be accepted we feel we must be what everyone else wants us to be. There are some who have one persona and some who play many roles. 2. Fear – We all fear and worry about what other people think of us (judgment) and if we went through life being put down and rejected that fear will play out and we will put on a mask. 3. They don’t like who they are – Many times we don’t like who we are and try to be other people by copying their characteristics. Sometimes we try to be the perfect person by copying the best characteristics of different people we see. We may look good on the outside but on the inside we still suffer because we know it’s not like us. 4. Trying to hide – Due to different situations in our lives we try to hide our real selves or try to make ourselves look better than we are…smarter, richer, more popular. All this results from a low self esteem. 5. To forget – Many people think if they put on a mask and be someone or something else they won’t have to deal with a painful past or current situation. The problem is that the thoughts will continue to chase us in one way or another and we truly won’t forget. Job 15:5 (NLT) Your sins are telling your mouth what to say. Your words are based on clever deception. EPHESIANS 4:25 – put off falsehood—stop deceiving. HOW DO WE UNMASK??? 1. First admit you are wearing a mask – realize you are “ill”--- Jesus said I come for the sick --- 1 John 1:8-9 // parable of religious man vs. sinner- LUKE 18 2. Acknowledge our wrong doings – confess and repent, handing the mask over to God. 3. Pray for strength, read the Bible and learn what God expects of you. Allow Him to work in you even when it’s painful. 4. We are at war with an invisible enemy, but that enemy is no match for the resolve and the spirit of GOD. I believe the only way we can beat that enemy is by the resolve to SEEK GOD and get His SPIRIT EMPOWERED FAITH to combat this invisible enemy. 1 John 4:4 John 16:33 Take heart and remember who’s with you. God is with you and God is for you. The invisible enemy can’t get the victory. There is an invisible God that is greater than this virus. He is with you in your trouble. We are in unprecedented times. We must be filled up with God's Word, in prayer, full of faith, and full of encouragement. HOW TO SHUT THE DOOR ON FEAR: - Remember who holds your future. Isaiah 41:13 God's got this, He is still on the throne. - Recognize that God has not lost his job. God is not shut down. The throne is not empty. God still answers those who call. HEBREW 4:16 / REVELATION 4:2 / ISAIAH 6:1-9 / HEBREWS 8:1-5 - Recognize, if you’re still breathing, God's not finished. He who started this work will be faithful to complete it. Phil.1:6 - Heaven is my eternal home. You can’t threaten a child of God with death because to live is Christ and to die is gain. Death has lost its sting and the grave has lost it's victory. 5 parallels from Ancient Israel and today’s culture - Israel followed God when they had strong leaders - Israel always strayed from the word of God and only returned back to God during crises or plagues - Always warned by prophets but often ignored it until it came - Israel’s Judgement always came suddenly – death associated to plagues - Both the righteous and unrighteous went through trouble at same time Could it be that while the world has said, "I don’t have time to pray, to read my bible, to spend time honoring God," that God is saying, "I'm making time for you to have time to seek me." - HOSEA 4:12- my people ask counsel of their stocks - HEBREWS 12:27-30- everything that can be shaken will be shaken - DANIEL 5:23-30 - the empire was shaken and changed overnight - Idols are being exposed and CRUSHED right now Definition of IDOL: anything you put before God. God thinks eternity, Humans think temporary. Everything that’s temporary is going to be shaken. Short term pain could lead to long term hope. Let's Use This Time To: - GET IN THE WORD - GET right with GOD – self inventory - GET in TUNE with what God’s SAYING - GET your heart saturated with FAITH - GET connected with faith-FILLED COMMUNITY - GET ready for REVIVAL - GET creative & practical with COMPASSION & GENEROSITY WHAT is this VIRUS doing to the WORLD RIGHT NOW? FEAR--PANIC--WORRY--ANXIETY--HOPELESSNESS--DIVISIVENESS---STRIFE--DISCOURAGEMENT--ANGER--PRIDE--OFFENSE--SELFISHNESS--HOARDING--DEATH--LACK--SICKNESS--LOSS of ENERGY--ISOLATION--SHUTTING DOWN anything and everything it can HOW SHOULD THE CHURCH RESPOND? SERMON NOTES - The Coronavirus has now infected as of this morning 86,022 people. Leading to at least a documented 2,700 deaths. Less than a hundred cases thus far in the United States, but hotspots have emerged around the world in unlikely places perhaps by our imagination, including Milan, Italy and the nation of Iran. ----But consider the fact that this little microscopic infectious agent is now making headline news, threatening a global impact on the economy, and even as international media made clear yesterday threatening the cancellation of the 2020 summer Olympic games in Tokyo. Those games were only canceled one other time in the history of the modern Olympics movement. And that was because of what became World War Two and those cancelled games were in Tokyo where the 2020 summer Olympic games are also scheduled to be held. ----LITTLE THINGS MATTER--- Now all of a sudden we're talking about this tiny little infectious agent being a world changer. How did that happen? We're supposed to be living in an age of radical modern advances. We are living in the age of modern medicine and yet we are looking at a little organism that is turning the world upside down. -Matthew 8:26---NLT--- why are you afraid? -QuestionWhat are you afraid of? What concerns you the most as of lately? What do you worry about? He changed the story in her life and the story she told herself. SHE SAID IF I GET JESUS I WILL GET WHOLE. - THE VISION MUST BECOME VOICE ACTIVATED - SAY IT REPEATEDLY - because when you’re changing your life you have to say it over and over. CLEAR FOCUS. CLEAR VISION.
