The keys to obeying God and honouring Him with our substance is stated in Proverbs 3:5-8; Trust, Acknowledge and the Fear of God. Success is what you have done compared to what you are supposed to do. Good success cannot be without true prosperity, they are two sides of the same coin and have very little to do with material possessions. Neither Eliazar nor Joseph had material possessions of their own, nonetheless, both prospered and were successful. Therefore, there must be more to success and prosperity than material mesmerism.
