In Genesis 2, we get a close look at the events that occurred in the Garden of Eden. We get to focus on the relationship between God and man. Pastor Greg Laurie shares valuable points from this book today.  Notes: Genesis 2/Genesis 3 Elohim is the appropriate word to portray God as the Majestic Creator. Yahweh is the personal name God uses when dealing with humanity. Read: Genesis 2:7–9 God created man and breathed life into him. The word, “breathed,” is warmly personal. Genesis 2:7 Eden means, “delight.” God placed man in a real place called, Eden. Eden was hand-made by God Himself, untouched by sin and death, perfect. Adam was tasked with naming the animals. Genesis 2:20 Read: Genesis 2:18, 21–25 God created woman and brought her to the man. The word, “helper,” does not imply inferiority; it’s the same term God uses to describe Himself as a helper to His people. God establishes the family and the home: A man and a woman. To have a successful marriage, you must both leave other relationships. Genesis 2:24 To have a successful marriage, the couple must cleave together. Cleave means, “to glue, to cling.” Marriage is a picture of Christ and the church! 1 Corinthians 7:32–33 Our greatest needs are not fulfilled in marriage but in Jesus! Read: Genesis 3:1–9 The devil undermines in four ways. Satan questioned God’s Word. “Has God, indeed, said?” Satan added to God’s Word. Genesis 3:3 God never said, “Neither shall you touch it.” Satan questioned God’s love. Satan denied God’s Word. Satan substituted his own lie. Every temptation can be resisted and overcome. Mark 2:21 God called out, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:10–13 Adam blamed God for what he himself had done. Genesis 3:12 We play a role in our own temptation and sin. Jeremiah 17:9 Because of Adam’s sin, we all suffer. Romans 5:12 Read: Genesis 4:1–7 The book of Genesis can be divided into three sections: Chapters 1–2: Generation, Chapters 3–11: Degeneration, and Chapters 12–50: Regeneration. Mankind wrecks everything he touches! Being exposed to truth does not guarantee you follow it. The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart! Hebrews 11:4 God wanted confession because that is the way to forgiveness! God gave Cain a warning. The Devil is always looking for trouble. Some people look for happiness in relationships, money, or shopping. Where do you look? Hint: If it's not to God, that's the wrong place! Pastor Greg Laurie reminds us that true happiness can only be found in a relationship with our Creator. Notes: "God cannot give us happiness and peace apart from Himself because it's not there." —C. S. Lewis Happiness comes from who you know, not what you have. "...Joyful indeed are those whose God is the Lord" —Psalm 144:15 The Christian faith is a happy faith.  God wants you to be happy, contrary to popular belief.  Angels brought good news that brings joy (Luke 2:10). God Himself is happy. Christians will still face tragedy. God's definition of happiness is different than ours. Biblical world-view: The Bible should change the way you see things. Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1). Jesus gave it to His disciples, not the multitudes; only Christians can live by this sermon.  First 4 beatitudes deal with our relationship with God, the other 4 deal with our relationships with others.  Blessed = happy. Read Matthew 5:2–9. Point #1: God wants you to be blessed and happy. Point #2: Happy people are humble people. Point #3: Happy people are "unhappy people." Point #4: A happy person will be a meek person. Point #5: A happy person passionately desires a righteous life. The only way to be a happy person is to know God.
