The Cross was the first time that we received the power not just to be forgiven but to be transformed by the Spirit of God living in us. The Holy Spirit lives in you as a Believer. God has given us the power through the Holy Spirit not just for our sake but so that we can take care of the Church until we all build each other up in love. Each one of us has been given a unique gift that will not look like the gifting of our neighbor, but it is needed and necessary.

We met the Holy Spirit in a small mountain town in Northern California. We were attending Mountain Chapel where Bill and Beni Johnson pastored for over 17 years. From the outside looking it, there wasn’t anything seemingly impressive or spectacular; we didn’t even have our own building for many years. We met at a theater where we squished 300 of us every Sunday….We were hungry! We were hungry to experience the power of God in our lives and hungry to bring Heaven to earth. I still remember the day everything seemed to change. Bill and Beni had just returned from visiting Toronto Canada where there was a huge outpouring of the Holy Spirit. As they began sharing powerful stories of experiencing the Holy Spirit while in Toronto, the Holy Spirit began to pour out among the congregation. In the latest episode of Cultural Catalysts, we share about the first time the Holy Spirit interrupted our Church service, touched Kathy, and forever changed our understanding of the power of God's presence. While the supernatural has become a normal part of our lives, it has never stopped being extraordinary.

You know the kind of seasons you question if the trials you're facing will fade or if you’ll see another day? From battling a nervous breakdown riddled with fear to being in a financial crisis and wondering if food would appear on the table the next day — our story is filled with perseverance and a deep rooted strength. I often look back on the seasons of life that were turbulent and treacherous and wonder if we’d be who we are today without them. In the midst of life’s hardest circumstances, tenacity and endurance began to fill our bones and established roots in our family. No matter the storm that came our way our home became a cornerstone of faith — we realized there was a purpose in the pain and possibility in the problems we faced. Let me be clear, I am not saying the Lord caused trials, but He definitely used them to build our character and prepare us for the call of God on our life. In this week’s episode, Kathy and I take you back to Weaverville; the key place in our life where this hope was built, stakes of faith were put in the ground, and monumental markings in our life were formed.

Did you know that in the story of the ten minas, the reward for stewarding money well is getting more responsibility? In this podcast, I teach on the principles of how the favor of God works as exemplified in Luke 19. If the Lord gives you $500 more than you need, but then you figure out how to cause the money you were given to make money—if you can create an ecosystem—the Lord says you should be over cities. The men in Luke 19 are responsible for, let’s say, $500, but his next promotion is 10 cities! My point is, oftentimes the Lord gives us a reward and we think that we’re overwhelmed. Often the challenge is, we complain about the reward, not realizing that the responsibility is the reward. We have the privilege of being responsible for feeding more people, having the responsibility for more cities, etc. The reason I think that this is really profound right now is that I feel the Lord saying, we need to be the ones to give people something to eat like the story of feeding the 5,000. Many look at the world and are asking the Lord to take care of all of the issues and problems and wanting Him to get rid of them. But I feel like the Lord is saying, “You give them something to eat.” I believe that in darkness, it is our time to rise. The reality is, we’re about to do the great exchange—beauty for ashes, joy for mourning. As we are rising, we are going to get a reward, and that reward is more responsibility. And if we aren’t careful we will cross the street thinking we don’t have what it takes. But the Lord wants to co-labor with us.
